History

The A. N. S.: a little history.

The "Associació de Navegants Solitaris" (single-handed sailors association) (ANS) is a sport association destined to the promotion and diffusion of single and double-handed navigation, being, for that reason, its main activity the sail cruisers races organization for single and double-handed sailors.

ANS combines their sport activity with associate and fans meetings, normally in the Reial Club Marítim of Barcelona, the association social see, where are talks, conferences or technical demonstrations related to the sail world. Recently ANS, in their share experiences and new friends will , has celebrated these encounter in Mediterranean Spanish Clubs, being in disposition to follow doing it in all those Clubs that could be interested.

Officially founded on 1990 March. The first president was Víctor Sagi Monplet. The association existed previously. A enthusiastic single-handed sail sailors group that spontaneously maintained the torch that ignited year 1973 the magazine "Yate y Motonáutica" director Antonio Beguetti. He organized the first single-handed long distance race of Spanish sail history: "The Mare Nostrum".

The Mare Nostrum race, with the first edition exception, has a 500 miles route from the exit in a point of Catalonian coast, leaving all Balearic islands by starboard, to arrive at another point of the Catalonian coast. It was organized until year 1981 by its founder, being sleepy later (with the 1985 edition exception) until 1987 when a group of eight participant veterans decided to organize a new edition.

The success was intimate but very intense. Thus between 1988 and 1991 four new editions were celebrated. For first time in 1990 was created the "A Dos" (double-handed) division, called "Reduced Crew". This division incorporated new sailors. In IX Trophy (1991) was 30 boats in competition.

Then when, for the enthusiasm to participate in as special race as the Mare Nostrum and animated to promote and preserve this sail feeling, it decided to legalize the association with the purpose to maintain the race alive that had joined them and provided so many good moments.

Once the association created, and always at the most event the race that had served as stimulus, was published an annual calendar of 5 to 8 races with a sailors score and all circuit score.

When the statutory period ends, after four years of government of the Founding Assembly, Toni Guiu i Badía took the ANS presidency's relief

, position that showed until March of 1999, date in which d?Armengol was named present President Ignasi Alvarez.
